What Waterville’s city pickup information says
Waterville’s published 2026 Bulky Waste Pickup Week ran May 18–22 and included mattresses among accepted items. The city limited that event to Waterville residents, excluded contractors, and allowed up to ten items per household.
Those dates have already passed as of this guide’s September 10, 2026 update. They are not a year-round collection schedule or a promise of a future pickup. Check the city’s page for a new announcement, or ask Public Works at 207-680-4744 about current options before placing a mattress curbside.
Ask your new-mattress retailer about haul-away
If a replacement is being delivered, ask the retailer whether old-mattress removal is available for your order and address. Confirm the charge, which pieces are included, and any preparation or condition requirements. Do not assume delivery automatically includes removal.
Ask whether the team will carry the mattress from the bedroom or expects it in a particular location. If you also have a box spring, adjustable base, or frame, name each item. Get the arrangement confirmed before delivery day so you can plan around any items they will not take.
If you want to transport it yourself
Contact the receiving facility before loading a mattress. Ask whether it accepts mattresses from your address, what fees apply, and whether it has wrapping or condition requirements. A nearby facility is not necessarily open to every town’s residents.
Consider how you will carry it out and unload it at the destination. Avoid leaving it outdoors while you decide: wet upholstery becomes harder to handle. If the mattress has a pest issue, disclose that when arranging disposal so the receiving service can explain its requirements.
Arrange a pickup that matches the whole job
Private mattress pickup can be useful when city collection does not fit your move, you lack transport, or stairs make the job difficult. Explain whether the mattress is upstairs, in a basement, or accessible at ground level.
